Education in Ukraine (unique and yet undiscovered opportunities)

Education has always been an integral part of Ukraine’s development. Every stepmade by the government of Ukraine in the field of education is aimed atproviding every willing individual with equal access to higher education, aswell as guaranteeing quality and interesting teaching process
The Ukrainian education today goes through a period of transformations.According to the requirements of Bolognaprocess, which the country joined in 2005, two degrees are conferred byUniversities today: Bachelors Degree requiring 4 years of study, and a Master’sDegree – 5 or 6 years. More and moreUkrainian universities enter international educational associations andcommittees. A number of Universities today cooperate not only with highereducational establishments from other countries, but with internationalbusinesses and governments of these states, as well. Ukrainian aviationacademies for example have licenses to train specialists for various UNOprograms. Technical institutions, IT and nuclear energy universities have exclusive contracts with the governmentsof Russia, Germany, Poland, USA, China, Uganda and other countries for trainingspecialists in various fields.

An academic year in Ukraine usually starts on September 1st andlasts till mid June. Foreign students who plan to study in Ukraine can applybetween June and October. Their first year of studying usually begins in midautumn. As a rule, students from abroad are obliged to spend a year at thepreparation faculty. Certificate of graduation from this faculty allows studentsfrom other countries to enter a preferred university without entrance exams.

Most known and respected universities are located in the biggest cities:Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipropetrovs’k, Donetsk and Odessa. First of all thesecities and their educational establishments can boast about having “greatnames” in their list of professors and graduates. For example Lev Landau,winner of Nobel Prize in physicsand Anton Valter (Creator of ExperimentalNuclear Physics School) graduated from Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. IlyaMechnikov, winner of Noble prize in Medicine studied natural science at KharkivUniversity. Prominent space scientist Sergey Korolyev and inventor of electricwelding Yevhen Paton are associated with Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
There are 9 medical schools, recognized by the Medical Council of India.Degrees of country’s technical universities are recognized throughout theglobe.
Cost of study for students from abroad is noticeably lower than inWestern Europe or USA. Teaching is conducted in Ukrainian, Russian or Englishlanguage. Medical education is an average of 3000 USD per year, studyingengineering and aviation is around 4000 per year. There is a special easyadmission process for students from abroad.
