It is very disturbing to find small school going kids walk barefoot on the filthy and unhygenic roads of the city. These kids are mostly in government and municipal schools and hail from the economically weaker sections. Quite often one finds broken glasses and other materials that could cause serious injury to the kids' tender feet. That would result in infection and much misery; also they wuld be forced to miss school.
thouhg many of us do charity work I feel this needs to be given some more importance for it relates to the health and fitness of the child and feet are vital in one's work life later.
Of course one needs to do it systematically by approaching the school authorites and identify those who are really deserving due to economic reasons. Kids outgrow shoes fast and old shoes in real good condition could be colleted and donated in a graceful and compassionate manner. Care shouldbe taken to see that the parents of the child or the child itself does not feel some kind of embarassment in accepting this gift with love.
Kids from the better of schools would be ideal to undertake this task as they could relate more easily to kids.
I think it is worth a try.

Why is it that many of us quite willingly take the trouble to attend live performances like music, theatres, talks etc., but just don't pay attention to the performer on stage. We are either busy with our cell phones or keen to gossip with our friend in the adjoing seat.
Besides showing absolutely bad manners and graceless bringing up it distrubs those who may be really keen to listen or see the performance. Further it is a shocking disrespect to the artist who has taken the effort to present something he/she thinks is nice and enjoyable.
By nature being a chattering population our attitude is a sad reflection on our degree or intensity of concern to our fellow men. That is why even the vital issues like corruption etc gets diluted. Because we attended the protest by Anna Hazare or Ramdev because it was a time pass; or because it was a place for where we could go with our friends; or even because some other glamour person was going to be there. that's why the the Swami who died fasting for clean up of the Ganges got no crowd or media.
And as we read reports of the many first rate things being achieved in China or the US, we feel inadequate and retarted due to our inability to have even thught of it.
We really have hardly any achievments to show for our 60 years of trying to bea nation.
When will this change?
