Parugu
Abhi (maharshi) | 3 June 2008, 6:49pm
Hi .......... Bye.
Don't get surprised, this is the character of Allu Arjun in the movie Parugu. He doent stay at any place for more than 10-15 mins or so. The movie will also not stay in any theater for more than 50-60 days. i think you have got idea about the movie, yes it is an average movie, just can have a look if you are free.
Parugu, Bhaskar and All Arjun combo which only impressed Dil Raju but not the audience. Having a faced paced title, the movie rolls on slowly. It is no where has the feel of run.
When it comes to the story, Neelakantha is a landlord and people consider him as the leader of the whocle vilage. He has two daughters Subbalkshmi and Meena. Subbalakshmi elopes with her lover, for which Krishna (Allu Arjun) helps.
Neelakantha in order to trace her daughter arrests all the close friends of her lover and loccks them in a room, in the premises of his house. Krishna is also locked in this room. When he tries to escape from there, he happens to see a girl in the snowy morning and decides not to run away from the village till he traces out the girl. All this happens in mere 20 mins from the start, and rest of it is wasted in finding the girl he saw. Acidentally she is Meena, second daughter of Neelakantha. Hmmmm this is the interval bang. Though he has stretched the story in the first half, the comedy traclk with Sunil was impressive and the visuals are good to see.
Now any guesses what would be the second half???? ..............
Yes you have guessed it right half the time is wasted in search of Subbalakshmi. When Prakash Raj finds Subbalajshmi, she disrespects her father so severely that you can never imagine those from a girl who came from village. He simply walks away and goes back to his village to get Meena married. Though Allu Arjun knows this he couldn't do anything as he thinks twice about her father before thinking about her. (Hey excuse me ...... is there anyone out there who does this when your lover is getting married).
Now slowly movie comes to the climax...this scene was really plotted well but the execution failed. Prakash Raj did his best but Arjun, he also as usually failed to deliver. The story ends here with Prakash Raj handing his daughter to Arjun (routine)
Hmmmm... about romance in the movie, it remained untouched. Even what hero can do if the heroine falls in love with him after 2hrs from the start of movie. Action sequences fell flat and the music was so so. Arjun din't had scope to dance in his style, which made movie even slow and boring.
I thought the theory of First Wonder Next Blunder wil not influence Bhaskar, but sadly it did. No match with the Bommarillu, that is definitely true. Happy news is that those who fell prey to this theory became great directors, hope he will be among them.
The main negative point in this movie is that the director never tried to establish strong relationship between father and daughters, which he claims he did it. The positive point is that Arjun was looking descent. The director went wrong in the selection of the heroine. Though Jayasudha dint had a lengthy character, she wes at her best.
Anyways it can be watched once with 2-3 buckets of popcorn and 4 bottles of soft drinks (as the movie is slow, dont blame me if they aren't enough).
I rate this movie 2/5......... Sorry bhasker you would have scored much more. And Arjun be carefull, earlier you were the best dancer (industrial talk) but now you fading under the youngsters like NTR and Charan.

Jalsa
Abhi (maharshi) | 3 June 2008, 5:49pm
JALSA................................Hmmmmmmmmmm What should i write about this movie. Was it god or bad? Is it a hit or a flop? What was the story? These are the questions thronged my mind when I saw the movie for the first time in the theater. But, when I saw it for second and third time, it was clear to me that this movie wil be one of the highest grossers in 2008.
What confused me?
What were the reasons behind the opinion of the first watch and the second?
Why it was clear afetr watching it for second time?
What...............
Wait buddy I am coming with my review and answer all your questions.
Hmmmmmm JALSA... the much awaited movie of the year, has hit the screens on 8th April 2008. Till date it is shown to full houses. I think the major part of the credit of this success should be given to Allu Aravind|(producer). He was the man responsible to create sensational publicity for a hero who had continues flops over the years. He had a plan, he executed it and now he is enjoying the success. He did everything to create such hype for Jalsa. The names of Trivikram, Pawan Kalyan and Ileana were add ojns to that. Finally and finally, after many postpornments, it got released in summer.
From release till date it din't had an uniform opinion, but it turned to be bigest hit of 2008. It has crossed 50 days mark and still running strong. Its collections were so huge that its first week collections stood 9th among the highest groosers of the week around the world. For a regional movie, it is huge.
Now when it comes to the story of the movie, Sanjay Sahu (Pawan Kalyan) is a naxalite turned student who lives in costly bunglaw with his friends , wears costly attire and keeps on boozing all the time. Now you should not ask me from where did he get all these comforts. Hmmm.. yes he is a PG student. Now here comes Bhagyamathi alias Bagi (Ileana) and her friend is Jo(Parvathi Melton). As usually, when these two are been chased by group of goons, Sanjay trashes them and commonly they both fall in love with Sanju, which is happening since many years in movies. After this intresting first fight, Bagi and Jo fall in love with Sanju. Finally afetr many attempts Bagi, a dumbo, wins over JO, an intelligent girl. In first half we can also see the building of the charcater of vilian Damodar Reddy against hero with few attacks and chases. In the intrval director gives and intresting twist to the story, revealing that Sanjay was a naxalite. Now thereaders and audiencce will raise thousands of questions which a typical Tollywood movie cannot answer.
Now after a twist in first in first half you would expect the movie to get serious and intresting. Though it is interesting, it is not serious. Second half shows how Sanjay Sahu became a naxalite (which was very interesting) and how he quits the naxalism and gets back to normal life. Here at this point i got terribly dissapointed because after watching a movie like Gamyam, in which he has shown naxalism very seriously, i couldn't digest the way they have shown it.There was no seriousness in the character of Sanju.
After all this bakwas flashback ends, Bagi and Sanju gets seperated for some reasons and then get united, between which we will have good dose of action and comedy. The scenes shot between Prakash Raj and Pawan are very interesting and also hillarious.
Hmmmmmm the climax, as usually a fight, a lecture and the death of the villain. Yes this is why i call this as a formula film, but in this movie though it had followed the formula, the director did it in different way (hillarious way). Hats off to Trivikram and Pawan Kalyan to make a perfect entertainer.
The visuals throught the movie were marvellous, especially the scene where Damodar Reddy grbs land from a mafia don, And when it comes to the songs, the were too good, my herat is beating is good example of the taste the director has.
Ileana looked pretty good in arole of a dumbo who does everything late by 10 secs. Pawan looked like an obvious choice for the role and was at his best. Sunil and Brahmanandam did a decent job in tickling bone. I think after Khushi, this is the only movie in which Pawan looked handsome, hillarious, jovial, funky body language and ultimate energy. Though it cant revive the charm of Khushi, it certainly dis something for Pawan Kalyan, who have never tasted the taste of success after Khushi. I am glad that PK's Power is back.
On the whole the movie is good enough to give PK a big hit and Aravind crores of profit. Devi did his magic again.
I rate this movie 3/5. To relieve yourself from tensions, watch Jalsa.

Tashan
Abhi (maharshi) | 28 May 2008, 5:46pm
Tashan - the title sounds more heavy than the movie. I suggest the production house change the movie's name to Torture. After working in a racy RACE, I dint understand why Saif has chosen this movie. Is it for Kareena? ok ok, leave that, I dont want to get personal. And when it comes to Kareena, she was there just to show her skin. THough the movie revolves around the chracter of Kareena, I think there there was a greater emphasis on showing her skin rather than on her acting. She was literally like a stripper. I think for this role Pamela anderson would have done the justice.
Here comes Bhayyaji (Anil Kapoor), the character I feel is worthy of a watch. He is the one who Saif (who plays Jimmy, a call center guy and an English trainer) teaches english (for some weird reasons) on the request of Kareena drenched in rain. Her name is Pooja and she works for Bhayyaji. Saif also agrees to teach Bhayyaji to get close to her. Suddenly in no time they get close to each other. One day Bhayyaji screams at Kareena for some weird reason, and when Jimmy objects, he threatens Pooja of telling the truth to him.
When Saif meets her in private, she tells him that Bhayyaji is asking her to marry him (are kis zamane mein ho? koyi aisa chillake poochtha hai kya shaadi karne ko? Saif thoda dimag laga yaar). He decides to help her, and they make a plan to rob the money of Bhayyaji and clear the debt made by Kareena's father, marry and live happily.
This is where the story takes a twist. The money which Jimmy and Pooja have robbed (don't ask me how they have robbed) is taken away by Pooja. That means Pooja cheats Jimmy and runs away, and in his office he is accused of leaking the information of a few bigshots to Bhayyaji (this is also due to Pooja). Now Jimmy tries to run away from the police and Bhayyaji, but gets into the custody of Bhayyaji, and the interrogation in the style of Bhayyaji starts.
And this point of time, enter bhachan pandey (akshay kumar). A typical guy from Kanpur who is shown almost like a superman, spiderman etc etc. He just talks with his hands and legs, and Bhayyaji is like a god to him. When Bhayyaji calls him to come and find the money along with Jimmy, he happily agrees.
Jimmy and Bachan go on to haridwar to search for Pooja, where she sees them. Suddenly the car in which Jimmy and bachan are traveling jumps into a river (for some weird reasons) from which along with these two pooja also gets out of the water. This is the interval shot. After this scene you expect the movie to be racy, but it is all about skin. Yes, we just see the glimpse of the second half exposing in a song in the first half where for no reason Pooja is shown in a bikini. And in the second half you will feel even the bikini was bigger than what she is wearing now.
And what else - she starts seducing bachan to ditch him run away. She tells that she has kept her money in Rajasthan in some weird places. Is there anyone out there who has seen kerala in rajasthan? yes, in this movie they show it.
Suddenly she becomes gudia for bachan who lost her in flashback, and gets successful in fooling him. BUt afterwards she claims that she was real gudiya and confesses before jimmy. THen what else, all the story happened as it is happening since 50 years. And there is a bit of variety here, in every bollywood movie lead girl is arrested by the viilain and demands hero to come and get them released, but here bachan is arrested and jimmy-pooja come to release him. After that a big huge fight where bachan kicks 40-50 goons and hits them with electric pole - yes you have heard right, he uproots the electric pole and with that beats everyone. And suddenly a few martial art fighters appear and hold your heart, this time he fights in a electric tower and swings on high tension wires safely. And in the climax from nowhere bhayyaji comes on a rickshaw with money and Pooja doing some shaolin stunts kills him. In between these three leading stars in a car get into a small room which Bhayyaji blows it off. But even from that fire they surive with car without any burns. Come on man this is wore than balayya's fights.
From this movie I assure you of getting one thing - headache and losing patience. The only one who can be watched is Bhayyaji, and a bit of bhachan pandey and nothing else. If you are a die hard fan of Kareena, then it is a treat for you to watch her as along the movie she does more stripping and less acting.
I dont know why Yash raj films do produce these kinda movies like tara rum pum, neil n nikki.

Kantri
Abhi (maharshi) | 24 May 2008, 5:55pm
Hi all sorry for being inactive these many days.
Recently i saw Kntri (Telugu) *ing NTR , Hansika, Prakash Raj, Kota.
The title of the movie itself says all about the movie. The crew were successfull in what they have aimed at. They have aimed this movie at the masses and it reached. If you want a movie with all the masala and mainly violence then this is the movie you are searching for. This movie has everything for the fans, it has lean NTR, bubly Hansika and chubby Tanisha in the lead. The comedy track was maintained sepeartely. The main positive point in this movie is that the movie doesn't miss the tempo throught. The fights were really so terrifying. Mani Sarma did very well to hype the movie's expectations and didn't dissapoint in the theater with background music. In this movie you can see complete transformation of stout, rough and hugely looking NTR into stylish, lean and attractive NTR. As the fitness bug has bitten many stars in Tollywood, many are following his path. All through the movie the production values were very high.
Now when it comes to story, Krati is an orphanwho works for a gangstyers. He gets into the gang of Prakash Raj (PR), where he quickly comes to the vision of the Don. He does all the work in advanceand very quickly. While all this happens he falls in love with Varalakshmi, the most luckiest, after sequnce of few silly yet good looking scenes. Very soon he gets out of the gang he was working and sets up his own gang. His first contract is killing Prakash raj. This shocks him and comes back to India from Hongkong. From here the clashes start between two. When all this is happening, suddenly Kntri and Prakash Raj come to know that they have father and son relation. From there Pr starts showing afection towards his son, takes him to his home and does what ever he says. Slowly Krati also wins the confidence of PR and Seshu (the man who handles PR's business in India). Seshu and PR decide that they Krati and Priya (Seshu's daughter) should get married. Kranti opposes and reveals that he is loving Varalakshmi and will marry her. Seshu couldn't digest it and tries to kill Varalakshmi. but this is Telugu movie boss, will it happen? never hero always saves heroines. On this point he succeeds in setting up the fire in between PR and Seshu and succesfully brtealks their relationship. And in this manner the story moves on with a bang n the climax, which has to be enjoyed in theater.
Overall the movie was good. As i was watching the mobvie, few scenes reminded me of the Pokiri. I think Meher Ramesh, has worked hard for Pokiri. Anyways doing first mobvie with Aswini dutt is not a small thing, by this we can estimate how much the director is capable of. NTR, haaaaaa, this is the name which is in every mouth these days in industry where Allu Arjun surpriesed every one with six pack and NTR shocked every one with his lean structure. He was looking so young, stylish and tough in this movie. And the dances, i believe no one in this industry can beat him in dances (even Allu Arjun). Now it is the correct time for him to grow as a star and also as agood actor. He was just rocking on the screen. Previously he was all over the screen but now you have find him on the screen. His branded lengthy dialogues and screams are dissapearing, which is a good sign. Atlast Aswani Dutt haas scored at BO with this movie.
This is all i felt about Kantri.
I rate this movie 3/5. I can promise you that it is much better than NTR's earlier movies.
