The word...
Princess September | 6 May 2010, 3:31am
I always wonder - if heros are idolised a little too much. While that may be so, there really is a hero in every one of us. It's that distinct quality that each of us have that no one else in the universe can replicate. Most of us don't understand that we have distinct advantages. More importantly, we don't value them.
MY WORD - Swaran Sehgal, CEO of Lotus, an amazing transformation trainer, brought to my attention the importance of 'MY WORD'. What he said is very close to meeting commitments of course. But that's not all. So often, words leave our tongue that we do not mean and wish to take back.
Many many people give a word - to be at the intended place on time, a promise to attend a friend or family member's wedding, to send a file your colleague needs, to respond to an email... promises. Empty promises, emptier words. Why is it that people no longer rely on the word? Today there are contracts - contracts between two parties on terms of trade, contract between employee and employer, contract for non-disclosure, contract to abide by code of ethics - there is a signed black and white contract for everything. Irony - that we now rely on contracts, we don't have faith in people or their words. Even more ironical that these contracts are in most cases not enforceable in a court of law and if they were to be, the time and cost of seeking justice is prohibitive. Yet, we rely on contracts. Do we have a choice? We believe that instilling fear, will get desired results. :)
And yes, there are many implicit words that we give - our politicians give a word to - to defend law and order, to protect the state...., the ancient Hippocratic oath of doctors that 'they will do no harm' and 'in every house where I come I will enter only for the good of my patients, keeping myself far from all intentional ill-doing'... when we buy a car, we will safeguard community roads in using the car... the list of such unsaid words is end less. Yet, we do not acknowledge them.
The Word, from ancient hindu mythological times has a lot of importance.
I read this snippet about Sachin Tendulkar. And i realised, this is his one quality that makes him a hero. Sachin Tendulkar's dedication to his WORD.In 2004, India versus Australia, Brad Hogg took Sachin Tendulkar's wicket. At the end of the match, Brad Hogg gave the ball to Sachin for his autograph. Sachin wrote, "It will never happen again" :)Till today, Hogg could not take his wicket for the second time. That's confidence and dedication. After this incident Brad Hogg and Sachin Tendulkar came face to face 21 times... but he could never get him out. Sachin Tendulkar took his word, given as an autograph, so seriously. It was a word between him and destiny, between him and an unknown opponent. Not a word, that he could be so sure of meeting. Hero's are idolised for so many superficial reasons. I did too. Sachin for all the tons he made, his Sharjah series with Australia - the whirlwind matches, but this is just above all of that.

Mumbai - Terrorism - Those who are not affected
Princess September | 30 November 2008, 12:02pm
While Mumbai is suffering from the after effects of the blast, rest of India goes on with their life - watching movies, pubbing, gossiping, life goes on - as though nothing has changed.
Let's not blame only our politicians. We have become so insensitive to the pain of another, yet we complain when no one emphathises with a personal crisis. Let's keep running, running ahead in our lifes, taking only a few moments to scan the channels or read the paper and sigh about where the country is going to.
Polling will go in Delhi, because there are voters who will go and vote for parties, that have no right to be in power. We only seem to have finite multiple choices for voting. 'None of the above' should be the choice.
We need leaders like our freedom fighters - not those who rise to power in avarice.
I am ashamed of myself for having done nothing for my country, except live my life.
We need to have one single platform to start a new era. Not multiple stand alone platforms.

Mumbai - Terrorism
Princess September | 30 November 2008, 12:03am
This is not the first time, we may not be the first country this has happened to. It's not the attack from outside that makes our blood boil. It's the fact that our memories are so short. WE FORGET. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. WE DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START. HAVE WE DONE ANYTHING FOR OUR COUNRTY, BESIDES BUILDING OUR OWN CAREERS AND SMOOTHING OUT OUR OWN LIVES? Can every one of us say, we have done our best in preventing such horrific incidents occurring? There are heroes who have lost their lives. But we can't let the 'gross negligence' that has crept into our system, our way of life, be pushed under the carpet.
Let's stop comparing our tragedy with that of another country, as though we need to take a cue from another country, in knowing how to lead our country, how to be as a country. Where is our identity as a country? Why compare it to a 9/11? Does it get horrendous proportion, only if we compare it with a 9/11?
It's heartening to note that finally, finally, people across the country have awoken to the oneness of our country. Will this last? Will we love the differences that make us, a special nation - a nation of multiple races or will we keep finding reasons for breaking up our country?
Where the mind is without fear - Famous words from Rabindranath Tagore - that's what we all need to awaken into:
"Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake"
Stop compromising at every step of the way in our lives. Paying extra to get a movie ticket, to an auto driver to get home, to the police man on the road, to the guy who fixes your telephone at home, to each and everyone in our system. Ask questions? What does the government do with the money they collect from us as sales tax, income tax? We deserve to know. Are we good citizens? If all of us, went out and did this, we wouldn't be in this state. Why wait for someone to take the lead. We make the government. We choose. Let's choose a new path. If we all put our minds to it, we can find a way.

And some more love! at work
Princess September | 13 July 2008, 1:42pm
If you're the boss, do you say a kind word to those in your team? If someone didn't do a good job, did you stop and ask what's worrying him or her?
Sense love at work? Think about it. Does it not seem selfish to love just family or friends? Everything we do is a part of our life. Not just how nice we are to our family or those whom we will see and talk to a second time or perhaps more.
Everything we do is a communication with the divine, work included. Small men try to make their own selves big, vie for a place amongst the stars; Special ones have no self they think of, they just make sure that the divine wants a place in their heart.

Lines from my books .. :)
Princess September | 13 July 2008, 1:19pm
Have you ever felt unloved and uncared for? When your dearest people turn away, we always do the same thing. Wonder what went wrong? Why don't they love us? Have we failed in some way? I wasn't special enough. Thoughts, conclusions.
But if you knew the love in your heart is true, you wouldn't doubt yourself. It's a failing in the other person, if they have not valued your love. Not a failing in yourself. And to hell with such love!
It's an irony of life that those very people who have an ocean of love within them, sometimes reach a stage when they say - To hell with love. The hurt that we carry heals when we know, it's the love inside us that matters. Not what someone else can give us. Not the love we find or don't find in others - our friends, family and at work.
God designed his beings that way. Incomplete. The shortfall is not in just human beings, but an extension of the shortfall in God himself. For it would seem that if God has created every human being incomplete, then what is he without the human being to make him complete. God started work on his creations, making them incomplete, and yet, he has given each of us, a part of him. That part which we ordinarily don't seek within ourselves. And so we remain incomplete.
It's the God within us that we need to love and nurture. Only that can make us complete.
Like the sea and the sky that, apparently meet but never really do, life is full of a million gaps.
Rarely can life be captured in either black or white. Life is more difficult to endure in reality than in the writer’s imagination. Truth is stranger than fiction. To sift situations through the sieve of truth is not as easy as the writer can write. In God’s script, truth is more a blur, which gets hazier all the time. While a story spans a few generations and always has a beginning and an end, God’s script for his creations stretches beyond thought, stretches so far we lose sight of the beginning and the end. Much like the tides, which come and go, where one can hardly discern where one ends and the other begins. One beginning sets on an end somewhere, one end sets on a beginning somewhere.

Love
Princess September | 13 July 2008, 3:15am
Love is about really wanting to be with the person you love. no matter how many years pass by. It's about giving to the other person, selflessly. It's about wanting to make another day happy for your loved one. And it's not about loving the other person when their circumstances are good - but to love the person's good heart, honest and innocence.
And life - isn't about what we get for ourselves - but what we have done and how we have lived.
These are not just words. There's plenty within. Just reach within.

On a wheel chair, on the highway
Princess September | 26 June 2008, 11:29pm
I happened to go on a day's trip to Mehboobnagar district yesterday. There was this man on the high way. The high way was pretty deserted barring a check post a few furlongs further down as we drove past him. This man was pushing along on a wheel chair (it wasn't really a wheel chair), it's a vehicle used by those who can't use their feet, I can't quite place the word for it.
What amazed me was the way God created this universe. There are some who have large families. Some who have no one. There are some with hands, feet, yet they find reasons to be frustrated in life. And there are some who don't have feet or hands, and yet they walk deserted paths. Strange as it may seem, when God deprives you of somethings, he gives you fortitude, patience and will power. I'd rather have those than all the comforts in this world.
Whether that man on the road, knows it or not, this post is for him. God bless him. To those who never say die!

It's not easy, yet you can't give up
Princess September | 31 May 2008, 8:50pm
While i am here, comfortable in my home, there could be many struggling, worrying, or even worse, neck deep in trouble to be able to worry. Been there, done that.
I know there is enough love out there in the universe that god leaves around to help each one find their peace. It comes in eventually. It's like a one way path. This one is just for emphasis and empathy. Till then endure and have faith.

The goldfish is no more
Princess September | 31 May 2008, 12:57am
We brought home a little gold fish. It belonged to a ten year old. She asked us to take care of it, explaining carefully how many meals it would have each day, when we needed to change the water and that the water should not be hot. Just one week and it would have gone back home safely.
It was swimming by itself, quite happily in it's home. I even blogged couple of days back, seeing the goldfish fly (in water). And yesterday when i returned from work, i saw it floating dead. It was a sad sight. The little one swam full of life, gulping down its feed happily. My sister thinks she gulped a piece of the gravel that was at the base of the tank.
We bought two new gold fish to give back to our friend. But i am sure she would cry knowing her gold fish is no more. Raising pets, is not so easy. Be it gold fish, birds, or pups. When they suffer or go, it's hard to see.

Thank god it's friday
Princess September | 31 May 2008, 12:25am
To all those who have had a week with full schedules, wonderful measures of hard work put in, count your blessings, that you are blessed with 'WORK'. Because when you don't have work, when you don't know what you ought to do next, it's the most stifling feeling, that one can get. Weekends are an added pleasure because week days are healthily complete days.
Of course, you might have guessed. I had no work this week that caused great sweat. So when i woke up today morning, i thanked god, very fiercely, that it's friday and i didn't have to go one more day to work, without doing much of anything. Please don't send this link to my boss, or i would be out of work, tomorrow. Ney.... not really.
Have you all made plans for the weekend? Don't pack it like 6 pack' pardon the innuendo, pun intended. Wake early to get a larger part of day light. That's what i intend to do. So right after this post goes online, i am hitting the sack. Just try one weekend, with fewer calls on the cell phone or any phone, quality time with the people in front of you, lesser honking of the horn on the road, eating home cooked meals, doing exactly that thing that your mom would want you to do from the bottom of her heart - you'll have the best weekend possible. Won't say why... not now at least ... maybe next time. To good times .... we see a lot of branding of good times these days.. be it fly the good times or ndtv good times! Happy time.

Does your soul dance?
Princess September | 29 May 2008, 11:27pm
The only way to dance is with feet flitting across the floor as
fast as the mind can imagine and the heart can feel. If you
paused a moment to think, it's only your feet that's
moving, not your soul breaking free.

It's a beautiful life
Princess September | 29 May 2008, 3:35pm
It’s a beautiful life ….
Life. What a pretty four letter word, with a dot in the small letter ‘i’ that’s like a tiny soap bubble, a capital ‘L’ with a curl at its top and a yawn at its bottom. Just when several sequential disasters happen do you realize that amidst all the disasters, the tears shed, the angry words, the struggle for peace and calm, for solitude and friends, the search for a silver lining – hey! you’re right in the middle of it and you don’t want to miss it – life, of course. If you stumble and you fall and you missed the relish of it all, you’ve missed life.
Stumble really hard so you can bounce back.
A few of my favourite things. A pen that writes with smooth curls in every letter. The aromas that float in from all the neighbour’s kitchen. The pigeon that fluttered in through the window, assuming I wasn’t home. It danced on the clothes, the table top before realizing it has got company and made a hurried exit. The chubby dog that walks disinterestedly along side it’s man servant as his master has no time to take him for a run. My giggle. All my friends. The sweet ones, the tough ones, the moody ones, the child like ones, the grown up ones. The multitude of songs that echo in my heart, the beat in my feet, the spirit that rises every time it’s hit a rocky patch. If only this wonderful feeling can be treasured in a box, cloned and sold, for a glimpse of joy and love for life.
Current Mood: Always alive!
