The Lt. who chucked his US visa!

chotacyrus | 14 July 2005, 12:56pm

< ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />6 June 2004:A lean dude walks out of the US Consulate,Chennai, with his VISA being granted.

21 June 2004:The same dude is now granted admission into the prestigious Indian Military Academy,Dehradun.

An extremely tough decision for anybody to make-choosing between dollar dreams and a long cherished personal goal. The decision however was easy for  him as he let his heart decide, and then unfolded an eventful journey. From pedalling all his way to Bhavan's on his sister's bicycle to learning to ride  military tanks, from his carefree days  at CBIT to the extremely tough training regimen at IMA,from those days of cribbing about walking all the way to the bus-stop to being the person who would run dozens of miles at one go,it certainly has been quite an extraordinary journey!!This guy is now a proud commissioned officer of the Indian Army.

But like any other achievement worth its salt, this one was too was not easy to achieve. To wake up everyday at a time when other youngsters go to sleep after partying,to exercise in extreme climatic conditions,to camp in a jungle for weeks together,to be determined to run a dozen more miles just when the thought of being completely exhausted has crossed the mind(and a lot more things that cannot be mentioned in a public blog) are all things that need tons of passion, perseverance and mental strength.Ragging too was not discouraged at the academy as it was supposed to make the cadets mentally tougher. That the already slim guy lost close to 10kgs in the first 2-3 months is an indication how physically demanding the course at IMA was.

< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

However, all this had to pay-off someday..and 11 June it was, when he would get rewarded for all the hardwork he had put in.The passing out parade is is the day that every Gentleman Cadet(GC) waits eagerly for..when he would become a proud Lieutenant. The passing out parade in front of the historic Chetwode Hall, the oath-taking ceremony, the pipping ceremony and all this being watched by the his proud parents with moist eyes are  all things that would make this day the most memorable one for every GC(and I thot a six-pack was the best thing that could happen to a GC there!)

All you candidates of the IMA,take a bow!

Hello people..here I am,posting after a long time, for I almost forgot I  had a blog of my own.Out of the five people who visit my blog regularly, two have taken leave from their respective offices(so no access to free internet for them) and two have taken leave of their senses(they say they find no sense in my blog now).Thank God for the other fellow who reminded me of my blog yesterday. It`s been quite some time since I have started blogging and its been a wonderful experience so far. When I started this blog, all I wanted to post was fiction(remember Potlibaba ?).Never did I realise that this blog would soon get inextricably interwoven with the incidents happening in my life. Also, the more I blog, the more I realise that blogging isn

Real happiness!(the edited,updated version!)

chotacyrus | 14 May 2005, 12:29am

< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Hello folks!Couldnt post for a long, long time as I was busy doing nothing,as usual!I read the awesome book 'The Monk who sold his Ferrari' when I got a break from the busy schedule.I got a lot of 'gyaan' from the book.Must say the book rocks! The author,in one of the chapters, talks about how we often lose ourselves in the pursuit of life`s 'bigger' goals and totally forget the small, little things that make life so wonderful! Here`s a compilation of all of the small, little things I really enjoy. These will be things I`ll always cherish maybe even when I grow more deranged. So here`s the list:

1).The smell of mud when it rains all of a sudden in the hot summer..man,doesnt it feel like heaven.

2).Eating hot pakodas/manchuria when it is raining heavily outside.

3).Recieving a birthday card from somebody who you thought forgot you.

4).The feeling I get after helping someone who'z desparately in need..the feeling of being a COMPLETE MAN(heard of it elsewhere?;))

5).Browsing thru` my childhood pics and then feel I was so cute when I was a little kid.

6).Go to the nearest chat-bandar and eat pani-puris like there`s no tomorrow..and then after eating all that I can,ask for some more, this time with 'meeta' and more 'pyaaz'.

7).Having a dal-chawal dinner with my family.

8).Going to a place of worship before every bloody exam and then come back feeling comforted and re-assured,every single time.(surprised to see this side of me!!esp after me having mentioned VODKA some 100 times in this blog..well,if there was no God,how would I get all that;) )

9).The joy of the new hot-chick on my messenger buzzing me first and me just saying 'yeah..what?'..some triumph here,eh?!

10).The joy of seeing comments being posted on my blog at some odd-hour on earth!

11.The joy one experiences in some of those

The end of the 4 year holiday!!

chotacyrus | 28 April 2005, 11:02pm

< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Hi folks..

Couldnt post for a long, long time..for,I was a little busy with my exams. One more exam and that`s it-the end of the 4-year holiday people call as engineering(Hope u remember my earlier post!).Really will miss these days of unrestrained  merry-making.People keep asking me if I would be free after these exams..but little do they realize that things are going to only get tougher.I sure am going to come back from college with a  heavy heart on the 30th.However,I am planning to leave a few things back at the college-things that I picked up here and wouldn't like to carry along with me for the rest of my life. The most important things in the list being complacency and procrastination. These are two things that almost every other engineering college in AP would equip you with. With deadlines that are always being extended, with half the class appearing for the supplementary exam along with you, with lecturers who knew as little as you did, with the watering hole right opposite the college looking more appealing than the dull, drab lectures at college and most importantly with friends who have no idea of why they are in college,I guess becoming lazy and complacent is all but natural.

This,I think is the case with most of the engineering colleges here in AP.I am not really sure if an academically-challenged person like me can blame the previous Government for giving permission to so many colleges(about 200 of them in AP) and bringing the quality of education down to an unprecented low.Infact, there are a few dozen engineers in our colony alone.Whenever I try hitting the dog outside my house with a stone,it invariably ends up hitting an engineer.Lucky,I didn

While I decide what I do with the money, people here can help me out with the second problem. MY 16th HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

chotacyrus | 31 March 2005, 7:50am

< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Isnt it sad that people tend to infer something about you by the date and time of your birth.Very few souls suffer as much as I do from this attitude of people.Well, cant blame them entirely for this..for I was born on the 31st of March..yeah,yeah I know I was almost born a fool!!

Birthdays, nevertheless, have always been special to me,although my interpretation of a birthday has  been changing. When I was a kid,a birthday to me would mean choclates, gifts, cakes and all that stuff..,soon it meant going around with friends, boozing and mushy cards from girls.Strangely,it has been very different this time. It`s been a little introspection and serious thinking this time around(hmm..am I getting wiser with age??).Ofcourse, the booze will still flow by the gallons tonight, but what I am looking forward to is making a few changes to myself this year.

Some changes that I would like to bring about this year are:

1).Sleep before 2 in the morning

2).Wake up before 9 in the morning

3).Muster the courage to hold a girl by her hands, look into her eyes and then in the most romantic way say 'Kya tum mere bacchon ki maa banogi?'

4).More of smart work and even little hard work.

The ratio of smart work and hard-work in my life now is 90:10,with the hardwork(10%) being done by my friends and well-wishers(some people are just too good, aren`t they?:D)

5).Postpone the idea of postponing important things.

6).Learn to dance. The problem with me is that only my hands move when I am dancing and my feet dont move at all,and finally when they start moving, there is absolutely no co-ordination between my legs and hands. This is enough for my dancing partner to get pissed off.

Hope I rectify this thing this year atleast.

7).Stop writing 'fullyfaltoo' posts.

The last 365 days have been quite eventful on many fronts..my first vote,my first love and also me turning into a vegeterian.I wish this year is atleast half as fruitful as that.

Now,enough of this shit, for I think this is my worst ever post! And all you pious, pure people out there, please pray for me and bless me.I need all your blessings if I have to achieve any of the above mentioned 'challenges'.

Cheers

The great wall of India

chotacyrus | 20 March 2005, 11:02pm

I never thought I`ll include a post on cricket, but I am here writing, thanks to the wonder-pill for dysentry and Rahul`s lovely century.Earlier, cricket was the game I loved the most.Bunked school, screwed up exams, placed bets and more importantly lost them all due to this game.Things, however have changed.Tennis is the game I love the most now.Yup,Sania is one of the reasons I am liking it.Agreed,I was not among the 200-odd people who demonstrated their lung power(Hyderabadi special this!) at the WTA championship held recently, but I still love her!Today was different though, for Rahul Dravid showed what a classy game cricket is.The shots he played were quite awesome. The lovely drives that he played may not be remembered for long, but the unflinching commitment that he showed and his hunger for more runs made me realise that cricket is not about 22 foolish people chasing a ball afterall.< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Maybe we could have ended up with more victories like today`s in our kitty, but we cannot blame the other batsman either.Poor Viru is always in a hurry to answer his mother`s call,Laxman has worries about his receding hairline and Sourav`s problems with the 'other-one'(not Nagma,u stupid!) are well-known.Well,even Wright cannot be blamed, for he always was searching for the right keeper that India really needed. The bowlers blamed it on the batsman for not setting up huge totals to defend. The batsman in turned blamed the sponsors for not giving them appropriate money. The sponsors in turned blamed the charming Mr.Sidhu for putting off viewers from their TV sets.On being asked about this,Mr.Sidhu repeated the famous line of his

A Day in my life

chotacyrus | 15 March 2005, 1:50pm

< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

< ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />4 am:Wake up at exactly 4 to work on my project.Feel very sleepy..then decide I`ll sleep for half an hour and then wake up.

8:30 am:Wake up and realise that more than half an hour has passed by.

8:31 am:Go to the kitchen and have a look at what`s in store for breakfast.

8:45 am:Start brushing my teeth

9:13 am:Still brushing my teeth..for I had recieved orders from my girlfriend to do it really well.

9:30 am:Really have a tough time handling 17 phone calls and a breakfast of 13 puris.Couldnt enjoy/focus on either of the two.

10:30 am:Leave for my project-work.

10:33 am:Sense the presence of some semi-solid on my head.Place my hand over it to realise that a bloody crow had again found my head to do the bloody thing. Now,why is it that they like my head so much.I still have lot of hair on my head and so it takes a few seconds for me to realise what has happened and this is enough time for the crow to fly away and maybe spoil some other guy`s day.

11:30 am:JAVA class in progress.Cannot understand a word of it(happens everyday).then start ogling at the girls(even this happens everyday)..then realise there is a  new-girl in the class and then later realise I am in LOVE!(now even this happens everyday).phew!

1:00 pm:Meet a friend over lunch.Later feel bad that he is the one who always ends up footing the bill. But then, isnt there a 'bakra' in every group..the one who always ends up coughing a substantial amount of the bill.

2:00 pm:Come home and look for interesting comments on the blogs @FH.

3:00 pm:Feel sleepy on opening the books.Decide half-an-hour`s sleep will increase my efficiency.

5:00 pm:Wake up and realise that more than 30 minutes have passed by.

5:30 pm:Start munching corn.Apart from being tasty,it rhymes with another of my favourite words-Porn.I just love corn!

6:00 pm:Recieve a call from one of my friends to meet at our 'adda'.Spend time there gossiping and sipping Chai..and being the only passive smoker in the group is not something that I have liked.

8:00 pm:Have dinner at Mohan`s.

9:00 pm:Have another dinner at home.Man,I hate doin this, but can`t disappoint my parents either.

10:00 pm:Decide will do what I love doin the most for half-an-hour and then start studying.

10:01 pm:Start doing what I love the most..listening to kishore kumar and drinking vodka:D

11:01 pm:Still doin what I love the most, only this time the music sounds even better

12:01 am:Still doin what I love the most..now I`m almost thru with my daily quota of vodka

12:30 am:Decide to wake up at 4:00 am and start working on my project.

P.S:Any guesses as to what I`ll be doin at 4:00 in the morning??:D

cheers

Invincible to invisible in 60 secs!!

chotacyrus | 5 March 2005, 2:57pm

< ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The change in the status message said it all-it was 'INVINCIBLE' till yesterday, now I`m invisible. The reason was rejection from one of the better known b-schools in India. What followed were a few hours of extreme disappointment.Rarely in life have I failed.People know me as a very lucky person.I always had luck on my side.Lady luck had always been benevolent to me.All I asked of her was to smile and she would always end up kissing me.This time as I put forward my cheek expecting her to kiss me again, she gave me the slap of my life.Believe me,it was extremely painful.I guess the pain would last forever!!.But it was more than just pain that she gave me.She also gave me a few valuable lessons here.I realised that luck would not always take me through.I realised that luck and talent alone would not be sufficient for one to survive in this world. One needs to really slog it out if one were to be successful in this competitive world.
I really wanted to kick myself for this failure of mine....then after some introspection realised that this was not the b-school I wanted to get into.It was more of a back-up but somewhere down the line,I had become complacent and almost 'settled' for this. This was not what I really set out for. This achievement(incase I was selected i.e)was not certainly people would remember for ever. This was not the b-school my grandchildren would talk proudly about.I now am very happy that I did not convert the call...for I would have lost myself in the happiness and would have ended up under-achieving.Under-achieving has been one thing that I have been conscious of ever since I was a little boy.Not living upto one`s potential is the biggest crime that one could do to himself..and aint I happy that this has been avoided.:D Time to move onto better things in life.
For the next few months,I`ll spend time doing those things that I have always wanted to..losing a little fat,and returning back to my first love-music and probably even try my hand at learning the guitar. All this ofcourse when I take a break from working my a** off for the best b-school in India:D.
Sometimes,isnt a slap worth a thousand kisses??

P.S:I hope I am not glorifying failure here!!

cheers

Politicians and the games they play..

chotacyrus | 2 March 2005, 11:43pm

A few bad things abt Indian politicians:
1).Digging noses in public like people used to dig for gold in the last century.
2).Hurling things at each other. The number of things thrown at each other in the parliament is usually very large.Very little, ofcourse, compared to the number of objects thrown at Anil Kapoor when he removed his shirt for a stage show.
3).Having naps in the Parliament. We have great stalwarts like A B Vajpayee, who perfected the art of extending the pause between words into brief naps, and Deve Gowda, the uncrowned king of snoozers.
4).Sitting when the national anthem is being played.Pls refer to the link below if u want to know what I am talking about.I`ll not elaborate on this..for the picture says it all.
http://www.tribuneindia.com/2002/20020128/nation.htm
5).Getting hospitalized when there`s an IT raid or a case pending. Now,how do Indian politicians(whose lifespan can be equalled only by the turtles)become sick all of a sudden when there`s an IT raid? And become healthy enough to shout and throw things around in the parliament as soon as they are 'safe'?
6).Being the biggest cause of traffic jams.I recently had a first hand experience of this.Caught in the traffic jam for 40 mins,a woman who was in labour pains could not reach the hospital at the appropriate time and I missed my supplementary exam again.shit!
7).Having actors campaign.I dont think they can ever make able politicians.Just cannot forgot what Govinda talked abt India in a movie of his. This one-liner of his should be up there..with the very best one-liners of Bollywood. He said "India is cow,cow is India".No wonder people made him a MP in the very next election.
8).Providing 'free power'.It is as ridiculous a claim as searching for 'WMD' in a place where it just doesnt exist.

The most hillarious scene of all has to be that of Lalooji brushing his teeth in a press-conference kinda thing in Pakistan. No wonder he made so made so much news then.Heard he has now changed his fav one-liner to "Jab tak rahega samose mein aalo, tab tak rahega NEWS mein Laloo".Wat say folks?

cheers

Please leave me alone..please!!

chotacyrus | 28 February 2005, 10:09pm

It was 27 feb..1989 and I was this small, little boy who was the topper of his school.Studying was all that mattered to me.My parents, friends and relatives were all proud of me.The village which I hailed from was also extremely proud of me.(The only time it was so proud of someone was when Ramu scared the hell out of the campaigning politicians.Ramu, then became the fav dog of the village after chasing them out of the village.Unfortunately,it died of the several bites it recieved from one of the politicians).Teachers at school felt they were privileged to have me as their student.Life was a bed of roses....but then something happened..something terrible.I was on my way to the school but did not reach there that day,I instead found my way to the bottom of what seemed to be a bottomless pit.One side of my head got injured.Doctors felt that only one part of my brain would function properly and how true they were! Its only my right brain that functions properly now.Give me a brush and four strokes of it on a canvas..and voila-a wonderful piece of modern art!Its only my left brain thats causing problems.I cannot remember a word of what I have crammed last night. All the midnight oil and the 101 cups of tea have gone down the drain(no..I`m not referring to my stomach as the drain here..although people I know would beg to differ!)Even my ability to remember which 'chit' I have placed in the various shirt pockets has severely taken a beating. My acads are horrible now and I`m now popular for reasons like standing first in the lemon-and-spoon race,snakes-and-ladders etc.
It has been a struggle since then.Standing first in the history tests has been a thing of the past.Maths has always been a mystery. So has been chemistry.Mensuration and Menstruation were topics I could never understand.I just want everybody to know the truth and stop making fun of me.All I need is a little time and lots of vodka to start doin well again.(heard that vodka taken everyday helps the left-brain grow faster)Till then,no comparing with the others and stop making fun of me.

P.S:Can any girl here help me understand Chemistry better?

The 4-year holiday called engineering

chotacyrus | 20 February 2005, 11:56am

 < ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

20 things common to all engg colleges:
1). The lecturers dont teach. The students dont study. The only guy who benefits is the one who owns the 'dhaba' next to the college.
2).Rules are made to be broken.
3).Promises are made to be broken.
4).Deadlines are made to be extended...ALWAYS!
5).Guys always think the chics in the college next lane are more beautiful.
5).The geeks are the most pampered lot during the internal exams.
6).The lab assistants are the most respected people(during the lab exams i.e)
7).The watchmen are the people most bribed.
8).The HOD is the person most respected(heights of sycophancy here).
9).The principal is the person most abused and insulted(behind the back i.e)
10).Dropping subjects is 'cool'.(arre yaar..drop the idea of dropping subjects plzz).
11).There is always a lecturer in the college who cant speak proper 'english'.
12).Night-out is the second most important tool to ace the exams.
13).The most important tool..the bhramastra..is the 'chit' in which the words can be understood only the person who wrote them(in most of the cases i.e)
14).The freshers are the most sought after..be it in the canteen, the 'free' periods or for completing the records, assignments.
15).The second-years are the ones with the 'I am the don-of-the-college' feeling.
16).The third years are the ones with the 'so-many-backlogs' feeling and the poor
souls get down to studying after bossing around in the college for so long.but the fun still continues.(I gave 22 exams last year!!).
17).The fourth years have no connection with the college whatsoever...with no interest in ragging, pulling each other`s legs, the bday parties, the bday bums et al which they enjoyed so much till now.All they want is a good placement and a '1st-class' tag attached to their memo.
19).The first three years are spent in cursing the college, the people there, the system et al.
20).But towards the end of the fourth year, people tend to feel nostalgic abt the pure unadulterated fun they have had for 4 years. Now the very system they disliked, the very canteen they cursed, the time that they spent there, the bday bums they suffered..all these seem like heaven to them.
To me personally, engg has been great fun(2 more months to go though)..its been a 4 year holiday to me..rarely studied, but had lots and lots of fun.The college was awful alrite but the memories I`ll take back, the frnds that I have made here and the first-class degree that I`ll obtain soon(:D) will be cherished by me..always.
These certainly were 'the best days' of my life.

cheers
