There is something about GODMen.

Johnny | 4 December 2005, 7:31am

Its sometimes very strange how these normal human beings attain Godly status. Whatever criticism they might be facing, but attaining a God like status is not a small thing. It does definitely require some supernatural cause, or shrewd planning by the subject him/her self.

Take the case of the Sai Babas. The modern Sai Baba is a testimony to the fact that there is something about these God men. Else, how can they be so an integral part of the spiritual lives of hordes of people?

Take the case of Maata. She is a spiritual guru to lakhs of people including foreign born people. People who are perfectly sane and logical in normal day to day life. But something about these God Men/Women make their logic go for six. Blind faith is what it is. Is it wrong? It isnt as long as it doesnt effect others.

Take the case of Ayyappa Swamy. The God once unknown to Telugu people 20 years ago, is now the most popular unconventional/non-classical GOD after Shiridi Sai Baba.

20 years ago, 300 people from Andhra went to Shabari. Now almost 3 lakh people go there. It is interesting to see the 41 day deeksha these swamys observe. They lead a life of a saint. They are said to be leading such a pious life, that they are referred to as Swamys by others. Even the first timers are respected by the 10 years old Swamys.
The testimony to this fact is the way in which the maala is administered to a first timer. The Guru Swamy(veteran) who is very elder, administers the maala to the kanna swaamy(first timer), followed by actually falling at the feet of the kanna swaamy. This is said to be a mark of respect for the decision of leading a life of a saint for 41 days(minimum), leaving all the materialistic pleasures aside.

I dont know if this is logical or not, but I feel that the superb dedication shown by these people for a better way of life is definitely commendable. One should take up the maala, atleast for the sake of discipline if not for religious reasons. It is more enjoyable than any other thing in this world. Trust me. I am one of them. :)
