Two things today. One, a passage in today's ICET exam quoting Gandhiji's thoughts on economic equality and the need to close the every widening gap between the ultra-rich and the absolutely poor. Secondly, my conversation with my granddad about the availability of Mont Blanc pens and the rise of watches powered by kinetic energy costing upwards of a cool Rs.15,000/- .
Got me thinking. A rare moment that but I had to do something with my idle mind.
Gandhiji's words read something like this >>
Economic equality of my conception does not mean that everyone will literally have the same amount. It simply means that everybody should have enough for his or her needs.

Hmmm... well, am not sure whether I should write what's on my mind here. But really, what's the point of this post?

What is public conscience? I got your point but am still not sure why you needed so many words.
I am some kind of an acqaintence to you, try figuring out who.

Exactly what I said.
No point and way too many words. The evil ways of a stupid mind.

Didn't read the post completely, but my 2 cents:
1. The rich have a lot of money. Several of them are are not going to donate it even if they don't find new ways of spending it. You create a fancy product for them, make them spend their money on it, and in the process improve GDP and employment.
You could argue that if this new fancy product weren't available, they would've anyway saved (in a bank on in equity), and that would anyway enhance GDP through getting converted into investment, but if that were true, saving would be as good as spending. No, it's spending that drives economies much more than saving.
2. You never stop inventing. All new inventions can originally be afforded only by the super-rich. But every invention with any utility eventually becomes a mass-thing - sometimes years, sometimes decades, but always.
Then, only 5-10% of inventions actually turn out useful. But to know which they are, you have to invent all 100% of them. It's like a venture capitalist funding new businesses. He has to invest in 10 if he wants success in 1, since he cannot find out which that 1 will be.
Of course, nobody puts in all this reasoning into inventing. People invent what they think will make money. That's how the world operates, and there's neither a way nor a need to change that :).

Ahem Ahem..
Idle mind thinking good things. Not bad.
See,firstly, people are indifferent , and thats why they dont help ...anybody ..it has nothing to do with status or whatever ...Apathy is the biggest problem our country suffers from. So while we have a Vivek Oberoi adopting a village ,a slum and contributing lakhs ( thats what the television says ) ,we normal non celebrity people wont move an inch, we'll just sit on our behinds and call him pseudo ....

Equal distribution of wealth is a very debatable concept..you have to remember that its not just the rich and the poor, its the poorest, the poor , the lower middle class, the middle middle class, the upper middle class, the non tax paying rich, the tax paying rich ,the rich anyway rich and so on . So where do we begin ? Who makes the first move? Should i look above and ask for more or part with my riches for the ones below ?Contentment is a funny thing...and i believe that you are truly satisfied only when you know that your end is near ...cos u have no other choice then .:-|
So i say , look at issues , help , reach out but properly ,not just with money ,but with ideas, assistance ,join the civil services, be a good citizen ..:-d Only then can you make MK Gandhi happy ..:)
